FTP Uploads via a Browser
FTP uploads by dragging a file from your desktop into your browser
has been around since Netscape 3. My experience is that this is
a little slow but it's faster and easier than using the File Manager
tool which can upload only one file at a time.
Uploading via FTP in Internet Explorer
From time to time there's a need to move files up to or down from
the server. If you're short on tools and don't know the advantages
of using a full blown FTP program you might find that IE is 'good
enough' for your needs. In a pinch, we find it is good for some
situations. And here's how to use it.
-
You have to use "ftp://" at the beginning rather
than "http://" as you would when browsing normal web
pages. To access your site on our server, just type in ftp://yourdomain.com
changing "yourdomain.com" to your real domain name.
-
It may take a little while but IE should then ask for your
user name and password for your account.
-
Once you have logged in you can navigate through the folders
to get to the folder you wish to manage by double clicking on
that folder.
-
If you go into a fold and wish to go back up one level, you
can click "Up" icon in the tool bar.
-
When you've navigated to the folder that you wish to move
files to or from, you add this location to your favorites for
future reference.
-
Open Windows Explorer and open the folder on your hard drive
that you are going to be moving files to or from.
-
Now, simply select and drag the files or folders from Windows
Explorer to Internet Explorer to upload and drag the files or
folders from Internet Explorer to Windows Explorer to download
the files.
Deleting files
To delete a file or folder on the server, you can highlight it
and hit the delete key. Once deleted, it cannot be recovered except
through a backup which can take time so please be careful.
